MUSA balbisiana
Musa balbisiana is a very fast growing wild banana from Northeast India. Balbisiana produces huge clumps and grows quickly to 15-20 feet tall, the psuedostems can be 1 foot in diameter or larger. It has gorgeous upright leaves up to 9 feet long and about 2 feet wide. Leaves are green above and a paler green underneath, the midrib is green to yellow-green. Musa balbisiana produces huge red flowers, followed by large clusters of bananas. Fruit is seeded and inedible.
Bananas are the easiest way to quickly create a lush tropical effect, indoors or out. They quickly produce spectacular exotic foliage and large colorful blooms, followed by banana fruits.

Bananas are very easy to grow. When planting in the landscape choose a sunny or light-shade spot that is protected from high winds. When planting in a cooler zones treat like a perennial; foliage may die back to ground in winter, but will resume new growth in spring. Mulch heavily in areas where the ground freezes, alternately rhizomes can be dug and stored. Bananas also make spectacular potted plants; they grow very fast so choose a large container. Bananas should be planted in fast draining soil, provided plenty of water and fertilizer throughout growing season. They will not tolerate waterlogged soil.
